Issues and Concerns for Math Teachers

While all curriculum areas share some of the same issues and concerns, individual curriculum areas seem to also have concerns specific to them and their courses. This list looks at the top ten concerns for math teachers.
1. Prerequisite Knowledge
Math curriculum often builds on information learned in previous years. If a student does not have the required prerequisite knowledge, then a math teacher is left with the choice of either remediation or forging ahead and covering material the student might not understand.
2. Connections to Real Life
Consumer math is easily connected to daily lief. However, it can often be hard for students to see the connection between their lives and geometry, trigonometry, and even basic algebra. When students do not see why they have to learn a topic, this impacts their motivation and retention.
3. Cheating Issues
Unlike courses where students have to write essays or create detailed reports, math is often reduced to solving problems. It can be difficult for a math teacher to determine if students are cheating. Typically, math teachers use wrong answers and incorrect solving methods to determine if students did, in fact, cheat.

4. Kids with "Math Blocks"
Some students have come to believe over time that they are "just not good at math." This type of attitude can result in students not even trying to learn certain topics. Fighting this self esteem related issue can be difficult indeed.
5. Varying Instruction
The teaching of mathematics does not lend itself to a great amount of varied instruction. While teachers can have students present material, work in small groups for certain topics, and create multimedia projects dealing with math, the norm of a math classroom is direct instruction followed by a period of solving problems.
6. Dealing With Absences
When a student misses a math class at key instructional points, it can be difficult for them to catch up. For example, if a student is absent on the first few days when a new topic is being discussed and explained, a teacher will be faced with the issue of helping that student learn the material on their own.
7. Grading Concerns
Math teachers, more than teachers in many other curriculum areas, need to keep up with the daily grading of assignments. It does not help a student to have a paper returned a few weeks after the unit has been completed. Only by seeing what mistakes they have made and working to correct those will they be able to use that information effectively.
8. Need for After School Tutoring
Math teachers typically have a lot more demands on their before and after school time from students who are requesting extra help. This requires a greater dedication on their part in many ways to help these students understand and master the topics being learned.
9. Having Students of Different Abilities in Class
Math teachers often have classes with students of varying ability levels within the same classroom. This might result from gaps in prerequisite knowledge or each student's feelings towards their own ability to learn math. Teachers must decide how to meet the needs of the individual students in their classrooms.
10. Homework Issues
Math curriculum often requires daily practice and review for mastery. Therefore, the completion of daily homework assignments is essential to learning the material. Students who do not complete their homework or who copy from other students often struggle at test time. Dealing with this issue is often very difficult for math teachers.

Nasrudin Ditangkap Waktu Perang

Ketika perang Salib, Nasrudin tertangkap dan dikenai kerja paksa di sebuah parit dekat benteng Aleppo. Kerja paksa itu, begitu melelahkan sehingga sang Mullah sering kali berkeluh kesah.

Suatu hari, seorang pedagang yang mengenalnya lewat di jalan tempatnya bekerja, dan kemudian menebus sang Mullah dengan tiga puluh uang keping perak. Nasrudin dibawa pulang oleh sang pedagang, dan diperlakukan dengan baik sekali. Sang pedagang, juga memberikan anak perempuannya kepada sang Mullah untuk diperistri.

Sekarang, hidup Nasrudin sudah lebih baik. Tapi tampaknya anak perempuan sang pedagang muiai suka marah-marah. "Engkau adalah laki-laki," kata wanita itu suatu hari, "yang dibeli ayahku dengan harga tiga puluh keping perak. Ayahku kemudian memberikan engkau kepadaku."


"Ya," kata Nasrudin, "Ayahmu membayar tebusan sebanyak tiga puluh keping perak, lalu engkau tidak memperoleh apa-apa dari aku, dan aku sendiri sebenarnya juga sudah kehilangan otot-otot yang sudah kudapat sewaktu aku menggali parit-parit."

7 Langkah Usir Adegan Seks Cinta Laura dari PC

Jakarta - Program jahat menggunakan iming-iming adegan seks bintang layar kaca untuk menjebak korbannya. Nama-nama pesinetron seperti Cinta Laura, Chelsea Olivia, Agnes dan Bunga Citra dipadukan dengan kalimat sakti seperti sex, lagi bercinta, telanjang, bugil atau ga pake baju.

Program jahat bernama W32/Autorun.AXLB itu diketahui menyebar melalui USB flashdisk, hardisk eksternal atau removable drive lainnya. Selain itu, virus yang dijuluki Vaksincom sebagai virus Cinta Laura itu juga akan memanfaatkan drive dan folder yang di-share pada sistem operasi Windows XP.

Analis antivirus dari Vaksincom, Adi Saputra memaparkan langkah-langkah berikut untuk mengatasinya.

1. Putuskan hubungan komputer yang akan dibersihkan dari jaringan.
2. Nonaktifkan “System Restore” selama proses pembersihan virus.
3. Matikan proses virus yang aktif di memory. Gunakan tools pengganti task manager, seperti IceSword atau tools lain yang tidak di blok oleh virus ini.
4. Lakukan terminate process pada file virus yang aktif, berikut langkah-langkah yang dilakukan:

• Cari proses yang berjalan dengan nama NTDETECT.EXE.
• Klik kanan file NTDETECT.EXE, kemudian pilih “Terminate Process”.

5. Hapus string registry yang telah dibuat oleh virus. Dalam hal ini, kita masih menggunakan tools IceSword karena worm telah men-disable fungsi perbaikan melalui script registry. Berikut langkah-langkah yang dilakukan :

• Explore file compress IceSword yang sudah di download atau dapat di extract terlebih dahulu, kemudian jalankan (klik 2x) file IceSword.exe.
• Pada tab [Registry], hapus string berikut :
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, hapus value “Windows”.
• Pada tab [Registry], rubah string berikut :
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\batfile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “”%1”%*” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\cmdfile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “”%1”%*”
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “”C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” -nohome”
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\inffile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe”
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\regfile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “regedit.exe "%1"”
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Classes\txtfile\shell\Open\command
• Pada jendela sebelah kanan, rubah value “(Default)” menjadi “%SystemRoot%\System32\NOTEPAD.EXE%1”
• Untuk melihat hasil perubahan, sebaiknya logoff/restart.

6. Hapus file virus yang mempunyai ciri-ciri sebagai berikut :

• Icon “3GP”
• Extension *.exe
• Ukuran 37 kb

Catatan :

• Sebaiknya tampilkan file yang tersembunyi agar mempermudah dalam proses pencarian file virus.
• Untuk mempermudah proses pencarian sebaiknya gunakan "Search Windows" dengan filter file *.exe yang mempunyai ukuran maksimal 37 KB.
• Hapus file virus yang biasanya mempunyai date modified yang sama.

7. Untuk pembersihan yang optimal dan mencegah infeksi ulang, sebaiknya menggunakan Norman Security Suite atau antivirus yang ter-update dan mengenali virus ini dengan baik.
